Leeds United have bolstered their Premier League squad with the signing of German international Anton Stach from Hoffenheim. The 26-year-old midfielder joins on a four-year deal worth £17 million, becoming the club’s sixth summer addition.
Stach, who has represented Germany twice at senior level, adds both height and physicality to Daniel Farke’s squad. Standing at 6ft 4in, the former Hoffenheim player is expected to offer a strong presence in the centre of the pitch. He reunites with fellow countryman Lukas Nmecha, having shared success with him during Germany’s 2021 Under-21 European Championship triumph.
What Stach brings to the team
Stach describes himself as a combative midfielder with a keen sense for reading the game. “I am good in challenges and anticipate what the opponents try to do,” he explained. Confident in his playing style, he expressed optimism about making an impact in English football, stating, “I’ll give it everything.”
He emphasised the importance of adjusting to the intensity and pace of the Premier League, adding that his aim is not only to develop individually but also to help the team maintain its top-flight status. “The biggest target is to stay in the league,” he said, expressing a focus on long-term contribution and improvement.
From Bundesliga battle to Premier League challenge
Stach joined Hoffenheim in 2023 after a spell at Mainz and featured in 71 matches across two seasons. His performances played a crucial part in helping Hoffenheim avoid the drop last year, finishing just above the relegation zone.
Andreas Schicker, Hoffenheim’s sporting director, praised the midfielder’s attitude and consistency, calling him “a quality player” and “a team-first individual” whose efforts were vital in securing Bundesliga survival.
Stach joins a busy summer of recruitment at Elland Road, following the arrivals of Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Lukas Nmecha, and Sean Longstaff, as Leeds prepare for their Premier League return.
