Raphinha commits future to Barcelona with new contract

Raphinha has pledged his long-term commitment to Barcelona after agreeing to a contract extension that will see him remain at the club until 2028. The Brazil international described his new deal as a significant moment in his career, expressing joy at staying with a team he considers home.

“Extending my stay here brings me immense happiness,” the winger shared. “I’ve always told my family that my dream is to finish my career at this club, and I hope to make that dream a reality while performing at my highest level.”

The 28-year-old’s previous contract was due to run through 2027, but this latest agreement adds an additional year, further solidifying his place in the squad.

Career resurgence under Flick and leadership role

Since arriving from Leeds United in 2022, Raphinha experienced an initial period of adaptation in Spain, scoring only 13 goals in his first two La Liga campaigns. Amid financial constraints, his future at the club once appeared uncertain. However, the 2024–25 season marked a turning point in his Barcelona journey.

Under manager Hansi Flick, Raphinha became a pivotal figure in a triumphant campaign that included domestic glory in the league, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. His 18 goals played a major role in reclaiming the league crown, while his contributions in Europe – 13 goals and nine assists – propelled Barcelona to the Champions League semi-finals.

This resurgence drew attention from Premier League and Saudi Pro League teams, yet Raphinha opted to continue at Camp Nou. His performances have earned him recognition as a potential Ballon d’Or nominee, alongside Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembele.

Raphinha’s influence has extended beyond the pitch as well. He was named one of the team’s five captains, joining Marc-André ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Pedri in the leadership group.

Maturity, ambition and personal growth

Reflecting on his journey, Raphinha acknowledged the personal development he has undergone since joining the Catalan side. Now a father and captain, he believes these changes have brought added responsibilities and a deeper sense of purpose.

“There’s been a lot of growth since I arrived,” he said. “Life has changed for me – not only professionally, but personally as well. Still, I believe I can continue to evolve with the support of those around me.”

His ambitions remain high as he looks to the future. “I aim to keep contributing with goals and assists, but above all, I want to keep lifting trophies with this badge on my chest,” he concluded.

Barcelona will wrap up their season with a final match away at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
