Eric Dier will leave Bayern Munich when the current campaign concludes, having declined an offer to prolong his stay in Germany. The 31-year-old initially joined the Bundesliga side on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024. That temporary move became permanent later in the year, and since then, Dier has featured in 45 matches for the German giants.
According to Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, discussions took place regarding a possible extension, but Dier opted against continuing with the club. “He told us he doesn’t want to extend and will leave us,” Freund confirmed. He added that Dier had been a valuable presence and expressed hope the defender would end his stint in Munich with a trophy.
Talks underway with Monaco for next move
Dier is reportedly in advanced negotiations to join Ligue 1 outfit Monaco. BBC Sport reports that the two parties are working towards a three-year agreement, with an additional year as a potential option.
If Bayern Munich secures a victory over RB Leipzig this weekend, they will seal the Bundesliga title. That triumph would represent the first major honor in Dier’s career. Despite a long spell at Tottenham, the England international, who has 49 national team appearances, previously finished second in two Carabao Cup finals and the 2019 Champions League.
