AC Monza have reinstated Alessandro Nesta as their head coach, just seven weeks after parting ways with the former Italy international. The Serie A club initially replaced him in December with Salvatore Bocchetti, but a string of poor results led to another managerial change.
Bocchetti, 38, struggled to turn around Monza’s fortunes, securing just one victory while suffering six defeats in his seven league matches at the helm. His tenure came to an end following a crushing 5-1 loss against Lazio, which left the team at the foot of the Serie A table, eight points adrift of safety.
Nesta’s initial spell and second chance
Nesta originally took charge of Monza in July, marking his first managerial experience in Italy’s top flight. However, his debut season proved challenging, with only one win in 17 league fixtures, leading to his dismissal in December.
Despite his previous struggles, Monza has opted to bring him back in an attempt to stabilize their campaign. His second spell in charge will begin with a crucial fixture against Lecce on Sunday, February 16.
Monza’s battle for survival
The club now faces a difficult battle to retain their Serie A status, with time running out to close the gap to safety. Nesta’s return signals Monza’s hope that he can inspire a turnaround and guide them away from relegation danger.
With a familiar face back in the dugout, the club will be eager to see if Nesta can succeed where Bocchetti faltered and lead Monza to a late-season resurgence.
