Sergio Ramos joins Monterrey on one-year deal

Sergio Ramos, the former Spain and Real Madrid center-back, has signed a one-year contract with Monterrey. The 38-year-old had been without a club since departing Sevilla at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

Ramos enjoyed a decorated international career, winning the 2010 World Cup and securing back-to-back European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012. His experience and leadership are expected to bolster Monterrey, who currently occupy 10th place in Liga MX under the management of ex-Manchester City defender Martín Demichelis.

Glittering career in Spain and Europe

The Andalusian defender began his professional journey at Sevilla before joining Real Madrid in 2005. Over the course of 16 years at the Bernabéu, he claimed 22 major honors, including five La Liga championships and four Champions League trophies.

After leaving Madrid in 2021, Ramos signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain before returning to Sevilla in 2023. His latest move marks the beginning of a new chapter in North America.

A special tribute to a defining moment

At Monterrey, Ramos will wear the number 93 jersey as a nod to his dramatic stoppage-time goal in the 2014 Champions League final. His late equalizer in that match proved pivotal in Real Madrid’s triumph, securing their long-awaited 10th European crown.

His arrival brings significant experience to Monterrey’s squad, and fans will be eager to see how his presence influences the team’s performance in the Liga MX season.
