Injury Woes Continue for PSG Before Reims Showdown

Paris Saint-Germain will face a significant challenge this weekend as two key players, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marco Asensio, have been ruled out for their upcoming Ligue 1 match against Stade de Reims. The Parisian club, currently leading the league, will aim to preserve their unbeaten streak at the Stade Auguste-Delaune on Saturday, despite these new absences.

Donnarumma and Asensio Sidelined

On Friday, PSG issued an official statement confirming that Marco Asensio has been sidelined due to a muscle contracture in his right thigh. The Spanish winger sustained the injury during the club’s midweek UEFA Champions League match against Girona, in which he was substituted in the first half by Randal Kolo Muani. The club has decided to rest Asensio for the upcoming week to allow him to recover fully.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is also recovering from a thigh issue. PSG stated that their first-choice keeper is continuing his rehabilitation process, leaving him unavailable for selection in the immediate future. Donnarumma has been a consistent presence for PSG in Ligue 1, playing every minute in their league campaign thus far.

Safonov to Step Up, Absences Pile Up

In Donnarumma’s absence, Matvey Safonov, who kept a clean sheet during PSG’s 1-0 Champions League win over Girona, is expected to start in goal against Reims. Safonov’s performance in midweek will give the team confidence, though the absence of their regular goalkeeper is still a blow to PSG’s lineup.

PSG’s injury list continues to grow under head coach Luis Enrique, with several other players already unavailable. Lucas Hernandez is sidelined due to an ACL injury, while Gonçalo Ramos is nursing an ankle problem. Additionally, Presnel Kimpembe remains out with a muscle issue, further complicating Enrique’s squad selection for the upcoming fixtures.
