Loïc Badé to Miss Nations League After Thigh Injury Setback

Loïc Badé, the Sevilla center-back, is expected to miss France’s upcoming UEFA Nations League clash against Belgium after already being sidelined during their 3-1 defeat to Italy at the Parc des Princes on Friday. The 24-year-old had been called up as a replacement for Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana, who withdrew from the squad due to injury. However, Badé’s hopes of earning his first senior cap for Les Bleus were dashed following concerns about his fitness.

Although Badé is not dealing with a new injury, he has been managing his workload carefully after recovering from a severe knee injury last season. Following a conversation with France manager Didier Deschamps, the decision was made for the defender to return to his club and continue his recovery there, rather than risk aggravating any issues during the international break.

Thigh Discomfort Discovered Before Italy Match

Just hours before France’s match against Italy, Badé began feeling discomfort in his right thigh, which prompted him to undergo medical tests at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine. The results indicated that the center-back would need more time to recover from the issue. Consequently, his chances of making his France debut this international window have been ruled out, according to a report from L’Équipe.

For Badé, this comes as a major disappointment. With Fofana out, he had been poised to take advantage of the opportunity and showcase his abilities at the senior international level. Unfortunately, the timing of his thigh injury prevented him from making the most of his call-up.

Return to Sevilla for Recovery

With the tests confirming that the French defender requires time to heal, Badé will now return to Sevilla to focus on his rehabilitation. Given his recent history of knee issues, both Deschamps and Badé took a cautious approach, ensuring that he does not rush back onto the field too soon.

While Badé’s return to full fitness will be closely monitored by both his club and the French national team, his anticipated senior debut for France will have to wait until a future international window.
