The German national team values Kai Havertz far more than the general public does, according to Germany manager, Julian Nagelsmann, highlighting the qualities the Arsenal player brings to the table.
Kai Havertz had a fantastic season-ending performance for the Gunners, but his personal campaign continued as he excelled while playing for Germany, as the 2024 Euro hosts.
Havertz has participated in every match of Germany’s current tournament campaign, making four appearances and contributing one goal and two assists.
However, some fans have urged Germany to substitute Niclas Fullkrug, a 31-year-old Dortmund striker who also scored two goals in the competition.
Havertz was given another start by Julian Nagelsmann in Germany’s opening knockout match against Denmark, defying popular pressure. Before the game, he gave an explanation.
Havertz brings more than meets the eye, says Nagelsmann
“If you look at it from the outside, a demand for Fülle (Niclas Fullkrug) is understandable, even though Kai (Havertz) comes off much worse in the public assessment,” Nagelsmann said.
“[Havertz] has a clear job in many games, which means that he doesn’t have many ball actions because he should create space for others. He did that exceptionally well.”
“In the internal assessment, Kai is ranked much higher than in the public.”
“For the striker, it’s not always just about scoring a goal. If you’re substituted and the opponent is already tired, you might have a little more space. Fülle has a good rating, but Kai is an important player for us.”
Havertz ultimately scored the game’s crucial goal, although from the penalty spot after executing his kick flawlessly.
Next game is against Spain, who appear to be the tournament favourites and would definitely provide Germany’s greatest challenge to date.
Kai Havertz is expected to lead the line once again for Germany and it would be interesting to see how the Arsenal man will perform against formidable opponents in the form of Spain. The 25-year-old has scored two goals, both from the penalty spot at the ongoing Euros, and will be looking to add to his tally in Germany’s next outing.
The game is on Friday, July 5th at 17:00 BST, therefore Havertz is probably going to be in the starting lineup again.
