Phil Foden speaks out after incredible performance against Real Madrid

Once again, Real Madrid vs Manchester City has delivered a brilliant game of football thanks to the talents of players like Phil Foden, who had a lot to share after the game.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has been the best player in England this season and one of the best players in the world. He is living up to the billing which his manager, Pep Guardiola, placed him on when they first made contact.

Once called the “most talented youngster he has ever trained” by the man who coached Lionel Messi to greatness, Foden is now showing off his true footballing qualities.

His goal to draw Man City level at a hostile Santiago Bernabeu was top-drawer. It also showed the kind of talent that City have stocked over time that allows them to be genuine European heavyweights.

The match ended 3 – 3 thanks to incredible goals and performances all around but Foden’s takeaway from the whole thing is how far his team has come with respect to European competitions.

“I don’t think it changed the game plan but I believe that sometimes you can score too early,” the midfielder started with a reflection on City’s opener, a brilliant goal by Bernardo Silva. “They responded really well and we had to just settle again and play our football.”

“This team’s come a long way now. When we go down we don’t put our heads down and believe in our ability.”

“We know we can always come back from behind. It’s a great team to be a part of.”

“With the possession we had they got a bit more tired, there was more space for me to come inside and find the pockets,” Foden added.

“As the time went on the game seemed to open up a little bit more and I thought we grew into the game more, especially in the second half.”

“We had a couple of chances and I’m just happy to make the most of one of mine.”

“We can’t dwell on the result, it’s a fantastic result to come here and get a draw.”

City will now turn their attention to an equally tasking match with relaxation strugglers Luton Town in the Premier League at the weekend.

Both teams have big agendas they are chasing at the moment and the tension could make the difference in their pursuits.

After that, they will prepare to welcome Real Madrid to the Etihad Stadium for the second leg of the quarter-final clash between both sides.
