The Inside Story: Why Lazar Samardzic’s Inter Transfer Fell Apart

Udinese’s young talent, Lazar Samardzic, recently shed light on the reasons behind the breakdown of his much-anticipated transfer to Inter Milan during the summer transfer window. The deal, valued at approximately €15 million, along with the inclusion of promising youngster Giovanni Fabbian, appeared to be on the verge of completion. Samardzic even completed his medical examination in Milan. However, at the final stages of negotiations, the deal fell through, leaving fans and pundits speculating about the causes.

While the collapse of the transfer raised eyebrows, it was widely reported that last-minute changes from Samardzic’s entourage were responsible for the derailment. These changes seemed to revolve around renegotiating a more favorable contract than the one initially agreed upon. In a recent statement given to Sport Week via Calciomercato.com, Samardzic provided some insight into the situation.

“It was never a question of money,” Samardzic asserted. Though he remained vague about the exact details, he conveyed that he preferred not to dwell on the past. Instead, he chose to focus on his current club, Udinese, and the opportunities it offered him. Samardzic expressed his positive outlook, emphasizing Udinese’s strength as a team and an organized club. He also mentioned that he intended to have an excellent season with Udinese, signaling his determination to move forward.

A Coach’s Perspective

Despite the failed transfer, Samardzic’s interactions with Inter Milan’s head coach, Simone Inzaghi, remained limited. The young star confirmed that he had never spoken with Inzaghi. However, upon his return to Udine, Samardzic received encouraging words from Udinese’s coach, Mister Sottil.

“I’ve never spoken with Inzaghi; however, when I returned to Udine, Mister Sottil told me: ‘I thought that by now I would only see you on television, with the Inter shirt, and instead, you’re here. I’m happy,'” Samardzic recounted. This anecdote highlights the optimism that still surrounds his career despite the recent setback.

Looking Ahead and Ambitions

Undeterred by the failed transfer, Lazar Samardzic remains resolute in his ambition to play for a top-tier club. At 21 years old, he believes he is already prepared for such a leap, emphasizing that he will only continue to improve mentally and physically in the coming years. He acknowledged that there’s room for growth in his on-field performance, particularly in his ability to exploit attacking spaces.

Samardzic is currently under contract with Udinese until June 2026, but with his aspirations set on top clubs, it’s possible that he may seek a move next summer. In the current season, he has already made an impact, scoring two goals in six games for Udinese. As his career unfolds, Samardzic remains a young talent to watch, with his eyes firmly set on achieving success at the highest levels of football.
