The Argentine is currently basking in the glory of the success of his national team. La Albiceleste were champions in Qatar, and the world has been lapping it up with reckless abandon.

In the last few months, the future of the Argentine star has been blurry, with reports suggesting a lack of clarity on where his next port of call would be. Messi extends his stay at the Parc des Princes

There were dark clouds over the future of Argentine superstar Messi. Following several news reports concerning his future, the former Barcelona star refused to address the issue of his next contract. Things seem to have come to a head as every issue related to his future has been sorted.

French daily Le Parisien reported on Wednesday that the four-time Champions League winner has now reached a verbal deal with Paris Saint-Germain. According to Le Parisien, Lionel Messi will stay with the Paris club for at least the 2023-24 season. It puts to bed every speculation about his immediate future.

PSG have always maintained their stand on what they want for Lionel Messi. The club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has never hidden the fact that the club wants to keep the Argentine in Paris. With the Le Parisien news, every club interested in signing the player next summer can put their desire to bed for at least another year.

Other clubs interested in signing Messi

Lionel Messi was never short of suitors. The Argentine was a target for several clubs, including former side Barcelona. The Catalan giants, who are in a massive financial mess, had hoped to sign Messi when his contract at PSG elapses next summer. Things have now been turned on its head as Messi has decided his immediate future is in Paris.

Le Parisien cited no sources when it claimed both parties had agreed to a deal for Messi to remain at PSG for one more season. PSG was not immediately available for comments about the latest revelations.

The club was under intense pressure to keep the former Barcelona star at the club for another season, as there were only six months left on his current deal.

Paris St Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi claimed this month that Messi was happy at the Parc des Princes.

Messi has 12 goals and 14 assists for PSG in all competitions this season.
