Milan to offer Ibrahimovic appearance-based contract

AC Milan want to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic a contract hinged on performances. The big Swede is due to be out of action for seven to eight months, with his return potentially late January 2023.

The Rossoneri are back in the big league. After an eleven-year wait, they broke their Scudetto drought by piping Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus to the Serie A title. It has been a long, hard road through the wilderness, but with minimal resources, the Rossoneri were able to do it.

Several factors contributed to the Scudetto win by AC Milan, but none can be luck. They fought every inch of the way, surmounted several obstacles and succeeded in pushing back the resurgence of city rivals Inter Milan.

Of all the factors that contributed to the success of AC Milan this season, none looms more than the 6ft 4 inches height of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 40-year-old Swedish striker brought a monster mentality to the team. Despite not featuring in most of the matches, his presence was a motivating factor for the team and helped drag them over the line.

Despite his inspirational presence in the squad, AC Milan want to offer Zlatan a contract hinged on his appearances for the side, starting from next season.

Milan to offer Zlatan a pay-as-you-play contract

No matter how good a player is, age eventually catches up with him. 40-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic is no longer at the peak of his powers, and AC Milan understands this, but the club is willing to reward his commitment to the team. Ordinarily, Zlatan should be retired by now, but the legend wants to continue playing despite being plagued by injuries.

The Rossoneri have taken note of the spate of injuries and are inclined to offer him a contract that matches his contributions on the pitch. A pay-as-you-play contract is on the cards for the Swedish striker.

Injuries and contract details

Whether on the bench or the pitch, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a loud voice in the Milan ranks as he pushed his side to another Scudetto. The Swedish striker is in the twilight of his career.

After their Scudetto win, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had surgery to fix his broken knee. The surgery, which came a few days after the Scudetto win, leaves many question marks over his future. Zlatan wants to play one more season, and reports suggest Milan are keen to renew his contract. It, however, comes with a proviso.

The successful surgery will see Zlatan out of action for seven to eight months, meaning he’d be out for half the season. The return date for the 40-year-old could be as late as January 2023. Milan have noted this and do not want to offer a huge salary in the renewal.

Corriere Dello Sport reports that Milan wants a contract hinged mainly on performances. The base salary wouldn’t be high, but bonuses could increase the figure that comes to Zlatan.

It seems Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants one last dance before heading into the horizon. The striker published a picture of himself outside the Casa Milan, indicating he would be at San Siro next season. The photograph was of the striker during the Scudetto celebrations.

Zlatan captioned the picture ‘Casa Ibra’.
