Erling Haaland to Manchester City confirmed by Dortmund

Latest reports claim that Borussia Dortmund chiefs believe that Erling Haaland and his representatives have agreed a deal for the striker to move to the Premier League with Manchester City in the summer.

German outlet BILD is the source of this report, as written by Christian Falk. The report claims that Dortmund have finally resigned to losing Haaland in the summer and that Manchester City will pay the striker’s €75 million release clause in the coming months.

Falk further reports at Haaland’s release clause expires on April 30 but Manchester City will have to pay in the amount to Dortmund’s account and get an official statement in writing from the striker to officially activate the release clause.

Manchester City offer for Haaland causes Dortmund chief to pass out

Borussia Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer spoke on Amazon Prime and officially dropped the hint that Pep Guardiola and Haaland will work together next season.

Manchester City have been without a striker for a while and have decided to go all in for Haaland this summer in order to rectify that.

BILD, as reported by Christian Falk, claims that the transfer to City is imminent but Sammer went a step further by talking about his expectations of the Guardiola-Haaland partnership come next season.

The host of the show on which Sammer was speaking on, Mario Gomez, stated initially as if to draw out more information from Sammer: “I’m very excited to see how the Guardiola-Haaland combination will work if it comes to that.”

Sammer replied: “They will both benefit from each other. Because Pep, of course – I was able to experience him for three years – has a certain idea. I can also imagine dealing with a centre-forward, no question. But he will also have to learn from the centre-forward.”

Sammer backtracked a bit when asked directly if the deal was done. “I don’t know,” he replied. “I didn’t hear anything today, yesterday, the day before yesterday.

“I know City is after him. The numbers – I had whiplash! I passed out. My wife picked me up again. Accordingly, it is possible.”

Witsel winner for Dortmund closes gap to four points from Bayern Munich

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund have picked up the pace in their bid to challenge Bayern Munich for the 2021/22 Bundesliga title.

The German champions have slipped in their defence of their title and at this stage of the season, it is looking unlikely that they will coast to a tenth straight Bundesliga title as many believed at the beginning of the season.

Second-placed Dortmund is now four points from Bayern Munich after a late winner from midfielder Axel Witsel sealed all three points in their match against Mainz on Wednesday evening.

Dortmund failed to assert their dominance in the game but an 87th minute winner from Witsel helped BVB claim all three points.

The game was uneventful for most part and both teams were on track to sharing the points until Giovanni Reyna whipped in a free-kick in the 87th minute which Witsel bundled past Mainz goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Dortmund fans have belief again as Bayern do not look the team they were at the beginning of the season in the Bundesliga.

However, Dortmund chief Michael Zorc had earlier stated that his side are not title challengers and that they should focus only on their upcoming matches.
